Agumbe – the Magic of Nature

A soft haze of clouds, incredibly green surroundings and a cold, damp, almost menacing weather surrounds you as you approach Agumbe in Karnataka. This small village gets the second highest downpour in India. Western Ghats is blessed with 70% of the World’s unique species (Flora & Fauna) found abundantly including the eminent King Cobras. Often referred as Cherrapunji of South India, Agumbe is known for its scenic beauty and bio-diversity.

So get ready for some amazing macro photography opportunities and to experience the pure magic of nature as Shoot Bob is back with the year’s most enriching tour to Agumbe.

This tour is for Aspiring Photographers, Seasoned Photographers, Travel & Nature lovers.
Kindly note that the maximum number of participants for this tour is 10 and registrations for this tour closes by 15th June, 2017.

    • Accommodation :
  • Tented accommodation on twin sharing basis at Kalinga Centre for Rainforest Ecology (KCRE).

    • Important note :
  • Bonfire and loud music is prohibited in view of avoiding any disturbance to animals.
  • Handling, agitating, or disturbing any wildlife will warrant strict action
  • Collection of any kind of flora or fauna is not permitted
  • Exercise caution, control and care during observation and photography in the forest to avoid stressing species or exposing them to danger
  • Respect the culture and sentiments of locals.
  • Kindly avoid carrying plastics and in case it is unavoidable we request that you carry back plastic waste with you. E.g. Pet bottles, plastic bags etc.
  • Room service is not available at the camp site.
  • Please understand that the camp site is an environmental education centre and not a resort.
  • By agreeing to join this trip you also agree to take sole and full responsibility to the all risks that you could possibly face in an forest environment.

    • Itinerary : Tour duration is for 2 days starting 29th July 2017.
      Day 1 (Saturday, 29th July 2017)
  • Reach Agumbe by morning 10 AM
  • Tea and snacks followed by introduction to the camp and participants
  • Quick overview of macro photography techniques
  • Do’s and Dont’s while going on the nature trails
  • Exploration walk - 1
  • Lunch
  • Relaxation time / discussion on the species spotted / Image review
  • Exploration walk - 2
  • Dinner
  • Exploration walk - 3

    1. Day 2 (Sunday, 30th July 2017)
  • Wake up to jungle calls
  • Tea and Breakfast
  • Head to Kundadri Hill Temple for landscape photography (or go on an exploration walk around the camp)
  • Head back to camp for a yummy lunch
  • Exploration walk - 4
  • Evening tea
  • Leave for home city to reach back for your Monday morning routine.

  • Camera Gears (Minimum requirement) : DSLR with Macro lens and standard zoom lens.

    Camera Gears (Recommended): Macro Lens which is 90mm and above, telephoto lens, external flash, extra batteries and extra memory cards.

      Inclusion and Exclusions:
      Inclusions :
  • Stay at (KCRE)
  • Local malnad/south-Indian, vegetarian/non-vegetarian food for lunch & dinner.
  • Coffee and Tea twice a day (Morning and evening)
  • All escorted photography sessions under the able guidance of experts.

      Exclusions :
  • Transport to and from Agumbe.
  • Bottled water / soft drinks / additional foods.
  • Anything that is not included in the inclusions list.

  • Getting to Agumbe : The nearest airport to Augumbe is in Mangalore, which is 101 kms away. From Bangalore there are overnight busses to Agumbe which reach in about 9 hours. We could further assist by giving you the details of best options depending on your preferences.

      Things to carry :
  • Forest conditions require you to wear camouflaged clothing or dark clothes, avoid bright and flashy clothing.
  • Due to humid conditions, breathable/cotton clothing is highly recommended.
  • Agumbe experiences heavy and continuous rains during monsoons, hence it is important to carry a large umbrella during photography sessions and waterproof bag for your camera gear.
  • General travel medications and insect repellent cream.
  • Torch light is extremely important for night trails.

  • Cancellation Policy : In case of any cancellations after June 15th, your amount would be safely held and adjusted to any future tours or events for which you join us.

    Specialised in macro photography, Mr. Amit is an expert photographer who has been into photography since childhood. In his early years he was very fond of bird photography and later he shifted his focus to macro photography. He believes, “It’s a whole new world out there which people generally don't get to see and it's very fulfilling to present those wonders through my lens”. He also loves to teach photography to the aspiring photographers and aims to work for wildlife conservation in the future coming years.
